I am SO excited about this giveaway. I've been a fan of Redpack Tomatoes for years, ever since hearing a rumor that one of my favorite restaurants uses them on their tomato pies. When they go on sale at my supermarket I buy them by the case.
This gift set is pretty amazing. For starters, everything comes in a large tin shaped like a can of Redpack tomatoes. When you open it up you see a pool of red confetti packing material made to simulate a can full of sauce. As you dig through you'll find two cans of tomatoes, a can opener, a mini spatula, a pasta server, a pizza cutter and Redpack magnets.
Redpack will ship an identical gift set to the winner of this giveaway. Pretty sweet, huh?

Honestly, my favorite recipe using canned tomatos is chili using the McCormick chili seasoning mix. It's so so good and so east to make! The recipe calls for 2 cans of tomato sauce.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up, my momma made us a lot of tomatoes cooked with onions, served over rice. It's still my favorite dish with canned tomatoes! Served with some ham steak or meatloaf on the side! Doesn't get any better!

ReplyDeleteI love Redpack!! I use them for making my salsa! I use fresh when i have the time but the diced tomatoes taste the same as fresh in my canned salsa.
ReplyDeleteI definitely use diced tomatoes more because i drain them and put them in my salads for lunch. BUT for cooking, i use more crushed since DH doesnt like chunkies in his sauce.

My favorite recipe using canned tomatoes is pepper steak. I finish it off with diced tomatoes and tomato paste every time.

For most often, though, it's probably a tie between crushed and sauce, since I so often use sauce for Indian dishes or my Spanish rice.

ReplyDeletesaute chopped onions in garlic and olive oil until translucent, add canned artichokes, add bag of thawed frozen California style veggies (broccoli, cauliflower and carrots), add peeled/deveined shrimp and a can of diced seasoned tomatoes (basil, oregano and garlic). Add some italian seasoning, mix well, and simmer until shrimp is cooked.
Toss with cheese tortellini - grate a little fresh parm over it and serve!
