Trip to Sonic

I've been seeing commercials for Sonic for years even though the closest one to us was 70 miles away. I heard their marketing strategy is to imprint the brand in your subconscious so if you are ever traveling and see one you'll want to try it. This also works for if one eventually opens near your house - all the hype has already been built up so they have very little work to do to get you to the store.

Then about 6 months ago not one but TWO Sonics opened within 15 minutes of our house. Score! A few weekends ago we went to one for a quick burger fix. We'd been once before about a month before the recent visit and I was mad that I'd forgotten my camera. This time I brought it along and got a shot of my cheeseburger:

Just look at that glistening, greasy bun. Their burgers are delicious but I shudder to think of how unhealthy they are. I got a combo that included the burger and fries:

I also got a cherry limeade, which is perfect for cutting the buttery, fatty goodness. I love eating in the car with the windows rolled down. Such a fun summer treat.

  2. There are 2 within 4 miles of my house, and I've only eaten in one in Oklahoma :)

And really, 70 miles for a quick burger fix? Really?

  3. It's probably a good thing we don't live close to a Sonic - that would be my hubs spot to hit up on late nights!

  4. It's definitely a treat. Like I said though, you really should have their tater tots. I always loved them. And their cherry limeade. Or maybe that's just good old nostalgia talking.

  5. Their marketing strategy works because we don't have one close by, but if we ever see one, we are there! We sit here in New England and just wish we had a sonic nearby!

  6. I used to live right by a Sonic in Tucson,AZ and I'd go there all.the.time. Cherry Limeades are the BEST!!! I also love their tator tot things (breakfast). Unfortunately the town I live in now won't get one for ~2 years and the closest one to me is 2 hours away...maybe that's a good thing though. ; )

I've been dieting for my wedding, which is tomorrow.. I am going to pig the heck out when I get out of that dress!

70 miles is a normal drive for a pregnancy craving, no?

    :)

  8. Sorry for the confusion, folks. They opened two locations within 15 minutes of our house. No way in hell would I drive 70 miles for Sonic, pregnant or not! :)

  10. Lucky you! I have to say I love their slushes...lime is my fave :)
In the little hick town I lived in most of my life, Sonic was the only option we had. So when I first moved to civilization I shunned it for a while. I'm starting to warm up again :)

  11. Sonic is a way of life down here in the South! It's the high school hang-out for sure, especially if you live in a small town!!! Along with your burger, I would highly recommend the cheese fries, or the chili cheese fries. They have the best ice in the world too!!! They also have happy hour from 2-4pm for all their soft drinks and slushes!!! We go everyday!!! :o)
