A Well-Stocked Freezer

I love a well-stocked freezer. We went to the wholesale club over the weekend and bought a month's worth of meat, which we packaged up on Sunday.

We bought ground beef, bone-in pork chops, chicken breasts, scallops, shrimp and tilapia. Just looking at all this food makes me anxious to get into the kitchen.

My mother-in-law bought us a FoodSaver quite awhile ago and this was the first time we actually remembered to get it out of the garage. We used it to package the ground beef and pork chops. It worked well, so I'm anxious to see how the meat does in the freezer.

It's making me anxious to get in your kitchen too. :P

I always wanted to try one of those FoodSaver thingies. Looks like it works quite well.

  2. I'm interested in cooking scallops for the first time. Do you have any recipes you could do for the uninitiated so I can give it a try? Phill isn't a fan of most fish, but I do want us to try scallops!

  3. I'd love to hear what you think of the Food Saver. We've discussed getting one off and on for the past couple of years, but still haven't decided.

  4. I love my FoodSaver. It is the only way that I have luck freezing meats.

  5. Melissa - LOL! Come over anytime. :)

I don't know about the FoodSaver yet since I haven't unsealed any of the meat we froze that way. I will say that I don't like one aspect of it - they give you a small roll of the plastic when you buy the machine. You can make your own bags, but you have to leave 3 inches of space at the top so it can seal the bag. That is A LOT of wasted plastic. And you can only use their plastic so I can imagine it would get expensive.

Katie - I'm going to post a recipe I made last night using scallops later today (tomorrow morning for you). They are so sweet...I hope Phill likes them!

Tara - See what I wrote above to Melissa about my experience so far. We got it as a gift so I'm not 100% sure how expensive the machine is, but I can imagine it's pricey. Add to that the cost of the plastic refills and I'm not sure I'd recommend it unless you buy A LOT of meat and other things you need to vacuum seal. I do know a few people who use it to marinate meat since the vacuum does a good job with that, but we didn't do that this time.

    C - LOL! Thanks. :)

Amber - I'm glad you like it. Have you found it to be cost-effective?
