Salisbury Steak

SP was such a fan of the Rachael Ray Salisbury steak TV dinner I made last week that he requested it again this week. I doubled the recipe so we had enough for dinner tonight and lunch tomorow.

I also made the gravy thinner and added more cream to the spinach. It was even better than last week.

  1. Salisbury Steak...what memories growing up with Swanson's TV dinners. I'd made it from scratch years ago and wasn't happy with results (too dry), but your post reminds me to try again. I cook both fancy and simple. There's no way around it, simple foods are THE comfort foods.

  2. Susan - I remember eating those Swanson Salisbury steak dinners...this is 100 times better. :) Both times I've made this recipe using ground turkey instead of ground beef because we've realized that whenever we cook with ground beef the results are too dry. If you make this I suggest going the ground turkey route.

  3. This looks so good, seriously, my tummy is making noise. I may have to rotate this in next week.

  4. Jessy - it was really great, even better for lunch today! Just remember that I had to do all kinds of adjusting with the actual recipe (more chicken stock for the gravy, more cream for the spinach).

  5. I'm surprized -- and happy -- that turkey works. I would have thought that was even drier than beef, but I'm certainly not going to argue. I'll plan on trying it very soon. Heck, I had pasta tonight, but wish otherwise.

  6. Susan - I started subbing ground turkey (a mix of the dark and white meats, not just ground turkey breast) in every recipe that calls for ground beef and so far I have yet to find a recipe where ground turkey isn't much more flavorful and moist. It was a real revelation for me.
